TOOLS

The name of the company is Sworn Nesting. This company matches students with quality housing and stands on the sworn assurance of creating a great customer experience for both landlord and tenant. The company launched in September 2018 and has an excellent reputation.

We specialize in brokering the tedious process for both students and landlords. Vetted Landlords can post their ads and qualified students can choose the best options suited for them. We are the bridge between both parties.

Deliverables

  • GitHub repository 'mtm6201-midterm' containing HTML, CSS, and assets.

  • Well-structured and commented HTML and CSS files.

  • Functional and visually appealing website with responsive design.

  • Website deployed and accessible via GitHub Pages, following accessibility guidelines and standards.

Scope

Create a functional, visually appealing, and responsive website for the MTM6201 Midterm Assignment. The website will be hosted on GitHub Pages and follow accessibility guidelines, ensuring proper contrast, alt text for images, skip links, ARIA roles, proper HTML syntax, and schema information. The project involves the use of HTML, CSS, and animations to enhance the user experience.

Task

Set up a GitHub repository named 'mtm6201-midterm' with folders for HTML, CSS, and assets, and regularly commit changes during development. Create well-structured, semantic, and accessible HTML, including skip links and ARIA roles, with clear comments explaining each section. Develop responsive CSS using grid and flexbox, add animations, and ensure proper formatting, comments, and contrast. Follow accessibility guidelines, using meaningful alt text, validating code for standards compliance, and improving navigation. Finally, deploy the website using GitHub Pages and verify its functionality, responsiveness, and accessibility.

Challenges-takeaway

Learning to create HTML and CSS without frameworks like Bootstrap can be challenging but rewarding. Key difficulties include grasping the basics of structure and style, balancing simplicity with functionality, and positioning elements without predefined grid systems. Strategies to overcome these challenges include breaking projects into smaller tasks, practicing with simple designs, and gradually increasing complexity while maintaining focus on fundamentals. For responsiveness, learning media queries and testing on various devices helps create adaptable designs. Debugging involves isolating issues, using browser developer tools, and seeking help when needed. Staying disciplined in meeting project requirements before adding extras ensures a strong foundation while allowing room for creativity.

Takeaway

The MTM6201 Midterm Assignment offered a valuable learning experience in web development, emphasizing the importance of clear project planning, iterative development, and maintaining discipline to stay aligned with core objectives. Starting with a minimalist approach and gradually adding complexity highlighted the value of building a strong foundation before incorporating advanced features. The assignment reinforced the significance of balancing creativity with structure, focusing on user-centric design, and ensuring accessibility and responsiveness. It also underscored the need for continuous learning and adaptability to stay current with evolving web development practices, providing essential insights for future projects.
